New student groups
Being the "new student" in middle school is TOUGH! We want our new students at DDMS to feel welcomed and accepted! If you are interested in helping out with making some new DDMS students feel at home, please sign up to help out with our New Student Groups. These groups might meet during SMART block or during lunch, and it's a great way to show these new students how warm and friendly our students are at DDMS!
SMART Block Teacher Helpers
We need Ambassadors helping out teachers during SMART Block! As a SMART Block teacher helper, you will help out a specific teacher about once a week during SMART Block, as needed. Teachers will receive a list of Ambassadors who are interested and we will pair teachers and students up. Once you are paired up with a teacher, you will receive an email from a counselor with information about which teacher you have been paired up with. The teacher will also be included on that email so you can easily contact him/her to set up a schedule that works for both of you. The days that you help out will depend on what works for you and the teacher. Sign up below if you want to become a SMART Block teacher helper! Happy helping!
DDMS is an incredibly diverse school and one of the reasons why we are THE BEST middle school in Wake County! Many of our students come from other countries and need help learning to speak English - and the best way to learn English is to speak it and practice, practice, practice! We need Ambassadors who are willing to have conversations IN ENGLISH with these students during SMART Block or during lunch. You can talk about whatever you would like - friends, movies, sports, weekend plans, vacations - the possibilities are endless! Very easy and a GREAT way to get to know other students while helping them learn English. Practice makes progress! Sign up below to become a Conversation Helper!
Special Needs helpers
Last year, we had several Student Ambassadors help out in our Special Needs classroom during SMART Block and it was greatly appreciated! Ms. Ellison, our teacher in the Special Needs class, is requesting Ambassadors this year who are willing to help out! This is a great opportunity for Ambassadors to gain an understanding of autism and allows our special needs students to participate in collaborative learning! Selected Ambassadors will be asked to help out once a week or once every other week (as needed and requested by Ms. Ellison). In order to participate, you must have a parent sign a permission form (found HERE). Sign up below if you're interested in becoming a Special Needs Helper!
We want DDMS students to have an IMPACT and Innovate, Master, Prepare, Achieve, Create, and Try. In order to get this message out, we want to create a video teaching students what IMPACT means and how they can IMPACT every day of their lives! Sign up below if you want to help create this video!
Welcome to Middle School video
To help transition some of our incoming 6th graders to DDMS, we want to put together a comprehensive video for them to watch that details all the things that makes DDMS the best middle school in Wake County! In the video, we will highlight elective choices, the 6th grade schedule, lockers, the punch card system, SMART Block, and much more! Sign up if you want to help out in some way with creating this video!
