SMART Block Teacher Helpers
We need Ambassadors helping out teachers during SMART Block! As a SMART Block teacher helper, you will help out a specific teacher about once a week during SMART Block, as needed. Teachers will receive a list of Ambassadors who are interested and we will pair teachers and students up. Once you are paired up with a teacher, you will receive an email from a counselor with information about which teacher you have been paired up with. The teacher will also be included on that email so you can easily contact him/her to set up a schedule that works for both of you. The days that you help out will depend on what works for you and the teacher. Sign up below if you want to become a SMART Block teacher helper! Happy helping!
DDMS is an incredibly diverse school and one of the reasons why we are THE BEST middle school in Wake County! Many of our students come from other countries and need help learning to speak English - and the best way to learn English is to speak it and practice, practice, practice! We need Ambassadors who are willing to have conversations IN ENGLISH with these students during SMART Block or during lunch. You can talk about whatever you would like - friends, movies, sports, weekend plans, vacations - the possibilities are endless! Very easy and a GREAT way to get to know other students while helping them learn English. Practice makes progress! Sign up below to become a Conversation Helper!
Special Needs helpers
Last year, we had several Student Ambassadors help out in our Special Needs classroom during SMART Block and it was greatly appreciated! Ms. Ellison, our teacher in the Special Needs class, is requesting Ambassadors this year who are willing to help out! This is a great opportunity for Ambassadors to gain an understanding of autism and allows our special needs students to participate in collaborative learning! Selected Ambassadors will be asked to help out once a week or once every other week (as needed and requested by Ms. Ellison). In order to participate, you must have a parent sign a permission form (found HERE). Sign up below if you're interested in becoming a Special Needs Helper!
Fun Run Helpers
We are holding our first ever DDMS Fun Run on Saturday, October 14th from 8:30am - 12:00pm! Sign up below to help set up the obstacles for this fun run. We will set up on Friday, October 13th after school, so please make sure you have a ride home at around 4:00pm if you are planning on helping set up!
Bullying Prevention Video
WCPSS holds a Bullying Prevention video contest every year to highlight the bullying prevention efforts throughout the schools. Last year the video that students created received an honorable mention in the contest! This year, we want something even better! Sign up below if you are interested in participating in planning, creating, filming, directing, or editing the video! The video isn't due until mid-December, but we need to get the ball rolling! Please make sure you check your email regularly for SMART Block meeting dates!
New Student Group Helpers
We have SO MANY new students this year and students who are constantly enrolling at DDMS (because hey, we're awesome and they want to join in on the awesomeness). Sign up below if you're willing to participate in a group session with some new students (in your grade) and help them feel more connected to DDMS! Group sessions will likely take place during your lunch period.
Red Ribbon Week decorators
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention program and campaign in the United States. Thousands of schools across the nation participate in Red Ribbon Week and DDMS is one of them! Sign up below to help decorate the school for Red Ribbon Week on Monday, October 23rd during SMART Block. Don't forget to wear RED on this day!
We want DDMS students to have an IMPACT and Innovate, Master, Prepare, Achieve, Create, and Try. In order to get this message out, we want to create a video teaching students what IMPACT means and how they can IMPACT every day of their lives! Sign up below if you want to help create this video!
